HBOmax delivers a great new comedy-drama series about an aging comedian superstar in her twilight that takes on a writer when her Las Vegas show is on the rocks. The battles between the comedy legend and the desperate out-of-work writer get raw when they start to expose their lives to each other. This is a gritty look at the toils of the industry and what people are capable of doing to rise to fame or keep the spotlight on them for just 5 more minutes. I binged this one after the first couple of episodes. It is well worth a watch. Jean Smart does a masterful job of playing a comedic genius that is completely misunderstood but still adored but coming to terms that her career is almost over, and is willing to do almost anything to hold onto that glory. Add this one to your list but be aware the comedy is raw, and sometimes in your face.
