The psyche of an alien attack - Invasion (2021) Series - Review

Earth is visited by an alien species that threatens humanity's existence. Events unfold in real time through the eyes of five ordinary people across the globe as they struggle to make sense of the chaos unraveling around them.

Greetings, fellow sci-fi enthusiasts! Today, I am thrilled to delve into the mind-blowing world of "Invasion," Apple's spectacular series that has returned with its second season. If you haven't seen it yet, be warned: spoilers ahead! So, buckle up and let's explore the highs and lows of this captivating sci-fi drama.

One of the most striking aspects of "Invasion" is its fresh take on the alien invasion trope. Unlike other shows that focus solely on the spectacle of destruction, this series beautifully captures the essence of humanity's response to an impending doom. The second season picks up the pace from where it left off, delving deeper into the psyche of five ordinary individuals spread across the globe, all struggling to cope with the chaos unfolding around them.

A stellar cast led by Golshifteh Farahani, Shamier Anderson, and Shioli Kutsuna brings life and depth to the characters. Their performances anchor the show, making us empathize with their experiences and emotions. The diversity of perspectives presented through these protagonists enriches the narrative, highlighting that, in times of crisis, ordinary people can become heroes in their own right.

Season 1 left us puzzled about who would emerge as the main hero, and I must admit, that unpredictability thrilled me. As the second season unfolds, the character-driven approach remains consistent, giving each protagonist a chance to shine and evolve. This multi-dimensional storytelling is one of the series' strongest aspects, creating an engaging and immersive experience for the audience.

However, while "Invasion" has garnered significant praise for its compelling storytelling, there are a few aspects that I hope will improve in the upcoming episodes. Firstly, the show occasionally includes non-English dialogues, which, for some viewers, might detract from the overall experience. As much as I appreciate the multicultural representation, it would be more accessible if the dialogues were primarily in English.

Furthermore, I want to emphasize that having strong leading ladies should not be an excuse to weaken male characters. Gender representation in the series should be balanced, empowering characters regardless of their gender. After all, a well-rounded cast is essential for a captivating storyline.

Now, let's talk about the interesting facts that add another layer of intrigue to "Invasion." The word "wajo" heard in the synthetic signal, meaning "castle" in Japanese, is a subtle yet fascinating allusion to the scale of the alien presence. It deepens the mystery and heightens our curiosity about the invaders' intentions.

Behind the scenes, the production of "Invasion" faced its share of challenges. The filming schedule had to be rescheduled due to other commitments, such as director Simon Kinberg's work on the feature film "The 355." Despite these hurdles, the team's dedication resulted in breathtaking scenes captured in various locations across the globe.

As we venture into the second season, the anticipation is palpable. With filming locations including New York, Manchester, Morocco, and Japan, "Invasion" promises to keep us on the edge of our seats, immersed in its visually stunning and emotionally charged storytelling.

Lastly, the visionary minds of Simon Kinberg and David Weil deserve commendation for creating a series that explores the invasion narrative from diverse angles. The intimate and epic approach to expanding the universe in season two has piqued our curiosity, leaving us eager to witness the further growth of this extraordinary tale.

To sum it up, "Invasion" is a series that resonates with its audience on a human level, showcasing both the strengths and vulnerabilities of individuals facing extraordinary circumstances. Its second season builds upon the foundation laid in season one, captivating us with a story that is as thrilling as it is thought-provoking.

As we await the next installment, I highly recommend catching up on "Invasion" if you haven't already. It's a masterful blend of sci-fi, drama, and human emotion that will keep you hooked till the very end. Until next time, fellow enthusiasts, keep exploring the wonders of the sci-fi universe!
