Parenting nightmare - The Mother (2023) - Review

While fleeing from dangerous assailants, an assassin comes out of hiding to protect her daughter she left earlier in life.

I just watched the new movie “The Mother” starring Jennifer Lopez, Lucy Paez, and Omari Hardwick. The plot revolves around a mother who left her daughter earlier in life to become an assassin and now finds herself on the run from dangerous assailants. As she flees, she decides to protect her daughter, putting herself in harm's way.

Jennifer Lopez plays the role of the mother, and I was impressed to see how much she bulked up for this role. However, as someone who has seen a lot of action movies, I can say that it's tough to pull off female leads in action movies. It's hard to believe when women beat up men unless the fighting is well choreographed and makes sense. Unfortunately, in “The Mother,” the fighting scenes were not as believable as they could have been.

Another thing that bothered me was how all the bad guys seemed to know where Jennifer was at all times, and there was no explanation for this. It seemed kind of dumb, to be honest.

Lastly, the ending was quite sappy and not satisfying at all. I was hoping for something more intense and thrilling, but the ending left me wanting more.

Overall, while I appreciate Jennifer Lopez's efforts in this movie, “The Mother” did not live up to my expectations. The action scenes were not as good as they could have been, and the ending left me disappointed. I would still recommend it if you're a big Jennifer Lopez fan or enjoy action movies with a softer edge, but it's not one I'd rush to watch again.
