I wanna be like Mike - Air (2023) - Review

Follows the history of shoe salesman Sonny Vaccaro, and how he led Nike in its pursuit of the greatest athlete in the history of basketball, Michael Jordan.

I recently had the pleasure of watching the new film "Air" directed by the talented Ben Affleck. The movie explores the game-changing partnership between Michael Jordan and Nike's fledgling basketball division, which revolutionized the world of sports and culture with the Air Jordan brand.

Firstly, I must say that period movies are always a treat to watch, and "Air" did not disappoint in that regard. The movie's setting is a nostalgic trip down memory lane, reminding us of the era when Michael Jordan first rose to fame.

The dialogues in "Air" are fantastic, with some compelling speeches that will leave you thinking about the larger implications of the movie. However, what I found most intriguing was that we never see the person playing Michael Jordan in the movie. Instead, the focus is on the partnership between Michael and Nike, making it more about the business aspect of things.

The star-studded cast was another highlight of the movie, with Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Jason Bateman, Marlon Wayans, Viola Davis and Chris Tucker all delivering top-notch performances. It was great to see Damon and Affleck working together again, and their chemistry on screen was palpable.

Overall, "Air" is a must-watch for those interested in how big businesses work behind the curtain and the potential for diabolical behavior in such settings. It's a movie that will leave you with a newfound appreciation for the Air Jordan brand and the role it played in shaping the world of sports and culture.
