Conquer your fate - The Northman (2022) - Review

Writer: Dan BrooksDan Brooks

From visionary director Robert Eggers comes The Northman, an action-filled epic that follows a young Viking prince on his quest to avenge his father's murder.

Visceral violence and emersed in Viking mythology and traditions and wonderful scenery. This is not the movie you are expecting after a decade of watching Viking TV series and movies from Hollywood. This is a movie that climbs right into the culture and mystique of Norse mythology. Extremely violent, you should be prepared for the decapitations and violent battles. I was impressed with the ferociousness of Nicole Kidman in this movie. She did a wonderful job playing the mother and queen of the group. Betrayed and exiled the young prince builds his strength and anger to take revenge against an uncle that robbed him of his birthright to be King, and took his mother as a prize. It was interesting to see some A-list actors in smaller roles in the movie. Ethan Hawke and Willem Dafoe to name a few. I liked this film for the mood and feel the direction took it. It made it stand out from being just another Viking movie. If you can stand the violence and be prepared for traditions and beliefs that may be different than you believe, (like the final battle being fought in the nude) this one may surprise you. Let me know what you think.
