Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves meet Dieter - Army of Thieves (2021) - Review

A prequel, set before the events of Army of the Dead, focuses on German safecracker Ludwig Dieter leading a group of aspiring thieves on a top-secret heist during the early stages of the zombie apocalypse.

Sometimes when prequels are made, it makes sense to give context to the bigger story. I think in this case this movie should have really come out first to lead into the Army of the Dead, instead of the order they came out in. Not sure why it was done this way but I think this development of Dieter was good to show why he was so odd in the Army of the dead movie. People who have not seen the Army of the dead movie can still watch this movie and do not need any context or info to enjoy it, although the Zombie element will make it less relevant if you don't know what is coming next. This had the charm of an Oceans eleven heist movie with the foreshadowing of an impending apocalypse. Quite the smashing together of ideas. Well worth a watch if you like action, comedy, and a sense of dread.
